ポルノとインターネット

ふとしたキッカケでポルノとインターネットに関する論文を色々読んでみました。以下、色々と調べた内容をまとめてみましたが、個人的にあまり聞いた事がなかったような話を中心に書いているので、非常に内容が偏っています。

また、多分に私のバイアスが入った論文選択になっているので、興味がある方は是非原文を読む等して同じジャンルの論文を深く読んで行って頂ければと思います。以下の文には、私の誤訳や誤読が含まれている可能性も高いのでご注意下さい。

インターネットポルノでレイプが減ったという研究

ポルノコンテンツがインターネット経由で氾濫したことによってレイプ事件が減少したのではないかと述べている研究がありました。この研究は有名らしく、いくつかの論文で紹介されていました。

論文の最初に以下の図が掲載されています。アメリカでのレイプ発生件数です。

While the nationwide incidence of rape was showing a drastic decline, the incidence of rape in the four states having the least access to the internet showed an actual increase in rape over the same time period. This result was almost too clear and convincing, so to check it I compiled figures for the four states having the most access to the internet.

Although the Reagan Commission had at its disposal all the evidence gathered by psychology and social-science departments throughout the world on the question whether a student’s exposure to pornography increased his tendency to commit antisocial acts, I found that the Commission was unable to adduce a shred of evidence to support its affirmative conclusion. No scientist had ever found that pornography raised the probability of rape. Howeer, the Commission was not seeking truth; rather, as I said in the title to my article, it sought political truth.

If pornography does not produce rape, I thought, then maybe it reduces rape. But no one apparently had any incentive to investigate the latter proposition. But the justreleased rape statistics provide the necessary evidence.

I am sure there will be other explanations forthcoming as to why access to pornography is the most important causal factor in the decline of rape. Once one accepts the observation that there is a precise negative correlation between the two, the rest can safely be left to the imagination.

Pornography, Rape, and the Internet

2006年9月に似たような結果を公表している論文がありました。この論文は、「PORN UP, RAPE DOWN」よりも、より詳しく様々な情報が掲載されています。

この論文は、多くの部分を背景の説明に費やしています。例えば、警察へ報告されるレイプ件数と実際の件数の違いに関する予測や、アメリカにおけるポルノの歴史、フェミニストによるレイプへの解釈なども解説されています。

この論文では、そもそもポルノがレイプ件数を減少させるという理論について以下のように説明しています。 1994年に、そのような理論をとなえた論文があるようです。

On the other hand, consumption of pornography may reduce rape if they are economic substitutes. Posner (1994) theorizes that if pornography is a complement for rape, it is likely also to be a complement for masturbation and consensual sex. If masturbation and consensual sex satisfy a potential rapist’s sexual desire sufficiently, then pornography consumption could also deter rapes. If this effect is large, it might outweigh the direct complementarity, making pornography a net substitute for rape.

この論文では、アメリカの各州におけるインターネット接続性に関するデータと犯罪発生件数などを評価して、最終的に結論では「インターネットによってポルノ取得のコストが劇的に減少したことがレイプ件数の減少に関係があるのではないか？」と推測しています。

反論記事

この論文は、NYTimesのヤバい経済学ブログでも紹介されています（Freakonomics : Pornography and rape）。

ヤバい経済学ブログにて論文への反論を行っているブログ記事(2x3xx7 : Don't buy a computer, but if you do)も同時に紹介されていました。

この反論記事も非常に面白かったです。

例えば、インターネットはレイプを減らすが、コンピュータ所持はレイプを増やすと数値が語っていて、インターネット接続性への不満でレイプが増加しているの？と反論しています。また、「報告されないレイプ」という話が紹介されているが、減っているのはレイプの発生件数ではないのではないかとも反論しています。インターネットを通じて「知り合い」になり、事件の発生が報告されなくなっているだけではないか？と書いています。

ポルノとレイプのまとめ論文

ポルノの流通とレイプや性的な暴力に関してのまとめ論文がありました。

この論文の特徴はインターネットだけに着目せず、テレビなども含めて多くの研究を列挙してある点です。「何故レイプが発生するのか？」とか、「どう信じている人がいるのか」などの話も含まれています。インターネット登場以前の研究等も紹介されています。

この論文を読んでいて思うのは、きっと答えは単純では無いという事です。インターネットポルノの普及がレイプを減らしたという研究もあれば、増やしたという研究もあり、ポルノの内容によっても影響があったりなかったり、影響を受けるタイプの人物と受けないタイプの人物がいるという可能性も示されています。

日本の話も出ていた

Other studies cite statistics from countries, such as Japan, where rape rates are much lower than in the United States despite the much greater availability of sexually deviant and violent material (Abramson & Hayashi, 1984). Empirical analyses in Japan also find that increasing availability of pornography is associated with declining rates of rape and other sex crimes (Diamond & Uchiyama, 1999).

エロコンテンツが溢れている日本の方がアメリカよりもレイプ発生率が低いという論文が二つ紹介されています。

In the United States today rape and sexual assault rates have continued to decrease even as pornography, especially via the internet, has become increasingly and more widely available. Fig. 1

アメリカで、インターネットによるポルノコンテンツの急激な拡大と同時にレイプ発生件数が減って行ったというデータも紹介されています。

性の情報が溢れると性犯罪が増えると漠然と考えてしまいがちですが、性的な情報を全てインターネットから取り除くと逆に性犯罪が増えるという可能性もあるのかも知れません。例えば、インターネット上に流れるエロコンテンツを全て撲滅するという活動があったとします。それが成功してインターネットからエロコンテンツが全て消えたら、レイプの発生率が上昇するという事もあり得るのでしょうか？

インターネットを清く正しくしたことによって現実世界が汚れてしまうとしたら、それは非常に皮肉だと思われます。しかし、現状では実際にそのような事が発生するかどうかは誰にもわかりません。

ウクライナ

先日、ウクライナで全てのポルノが医学目的以外では違法になったそうです。今後、ウクライナにおける性犯罪発生率が上昇すれば、「ポルノと性犯罪率には因果関係がある」という事例になるのかも知れません。

未成年がセックスに興味を持つという弊害がある？

イギリスで10代に避妊教育プログラムを行った結果、逆に性に興味を持ってしまって妊娠率が上昇してしまったのではないかという事例があるようです。

このような事例があることを考えると、子供が無制限に性の情報にアクセス出来る事には危険性が認められると述べている研究がありそうです。過去数十年、テレビと性的な情報に関しての研究はかなり多く行われてきました。

子供が無制限にインターネットに触れる事に関しての研究も探せばありそうな気がしています。そのような意味では、子供が誰でも簡単に性的な情報にアクセス出来てしまう事の弊害に関しては考える必要があるような気がしています。

ただ、フィルタリングの実施方法によっては別の箇所で弊害が発生する可能性もあるので、非常に難しい議論になりそうです。長い目で見て日本のインターネットが中国のインターネットのようになる可能性もあり得ます。この議題の詳細に関しては、ここでは割愛させて頂きます。

児童ポルノ関連

児童ポルノ関連論文や児童保護を目的とした組織が発行しているホワイトペーパーもいくつか読んでみました。

チャットやSNS経由で子供が犯罪に遭遇する危険性は上昇している？

児童ポルノに関する資料や、子供をインターネット経由の被害からまもるために設立された団体などによる資料を見ていると、インターネットのチャットやSNSを経由して子供が被害者になることが多いというニュアンスの表現があります。

いくつかの資料では、児童ポルノ画像がインターネットを経由してやり取りされる経路などに関しても書かれています。児童ポルノとして撮影される被害者の話や、画像が配布されることそのものに関する苦痛なども解説してあります。

容疑者が児童ポルノ画像を所有していた割合

U.S. Department of Justiceが2006年5月に発行した「Child Pornography on the Internet」には以下のような一文もあります。インターネットの登場で、児童ポルノの入手が容易になり、児童ポルノ所持者が実際に物理的な犯罪に関わる割合が変化しているという話もあるようです。実際に逮捕された容疑者が児童ポルノ画像を所持していた割合はインターネット以前は1/3～1/5、インターネット後は10％という結果がそれぞれあるようです。

It is not known exactly how many people may access child pornography on the Internet without ever physically abusing a child. Before the Internet, between one-fifth and one-third of people arrested for possession of child pornography were also involved in actual abuse. However, the Internet makes it easy for people who may never have actively sought out traditional forms of child pornography to satisfy their curiosity online and this may encourage casual users. Looking at the relationship from the other direction, those convicted of sexually abusing children will not necessarily seek out or collect child pornography, with one study putting the number of offenders who do so at around 10 percent.

資料

児童ポルノ関連の資料を色々読んでみると、この問題は非常に複雑で難しいと思われました。また、画像交換を含む多くの事が目に見えない水面下で行われているという印象を受けました。

今回ざっと読んだのは以下の6つの資料ですが、インターネットと児童ポルノの問題は今後も色々な研究がされていくと思いました。

インターネットとポルノに関する統計情報

次のWebページにインターネットポルノに関する統計情報が掲載されています。

Internet Pornography Statistics

ここに掲載されている情報によると、2006年のポルノによる世界全体の収益はMicrosoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo!, Apple, Netflix and EarthLinkを合計した収益よりも多いそうです。１位が中国、２位が韓国、3位が日本で、４位がアメリカだそうです。

ポルノデータが置いてあるWebページは89％がアメリカで、日本は５位で1％のようです。でも、この「国別」ってまさかとは思うのですが、TLD(Top Level Domain)で考えていて「.com」がアメリカとか言ってないですよね？？？本当に89％がアメリカなんですかね？？？
